Welcome Message

Greetings and welcome to our inaugural dental two days on call preparatory course. This hybrid course will have an academic as well as hands on session. Dental graduates upon entering the working environment will need to manage emergency cases in the emergency department and handle in-house ward patients during their respective hospital postings.

Scope of cases often will involve trauma, infections as well as immediate needs of patients in the wards. Dental graduates are often said to have a lack of confidence and not work ready when it comes to working hours on calls. This lack of confidence and fear of the unknown often leads to stress.

The objective of this course is to offer a general exposure to important fundamental principles that is needed when seeing patients in the emergency department and wards. It will also help guide history taking and important documentation of these patients which often have a medico legal component as well.

Our hands on clinical sessions will allow for everyone to learn some tips and tricks when in comes to being able to perform branula insertion and venipuncture, nasogastric tubes for feeding and urinary catheters as well as knowledge on intensive care unit protocols and fluid management. We hope that with this basic exposure, our new officers and soon the be graduating students will be able to build on the acquired knowledge and skills obtained in this two-day course when they start working.

We also hope that it will be an eye opener and reduce the fear and stress of the unknown.

Finally, have a great learning experience.
