Role Of Women Voters Becoming Crucial

BANGI, 26 Apr 2013 – The role of women as voters and as a pressure group has never been as important as in the coming 13th General Elections.

A forum at The National University of Malaysia (UKM) today agreed that the results of the 13th general election will most likely be determined by women and the minorities who have become increasingly aware of their voting power.

The Forum on Women, Youth and Minorities in the 13th General Election was organised by the Centre for Women’s Leadership of UKM. Deputy Dean (Students) of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Fuad Mat Jali and Prof Dr Jawan Jayum of Universiti Putera Malaysia (UPM) were the speakers with the Centre’s Director, Assoc Prof Dr Madeline Behma acting as the moderator.

Women Urged To Resist Gender Discrimination

BANGI, 20 Sept 2013 – A researcher from the University of Sussex UK said that women were still being discriminated against based on perceptions that they are emotional and have physical weaknesses.

Professor Louise Morley cited a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) 2010 report that only 29% of the world’s researchers are women as an example of the continued discrimination.

Women Entrepreneurs As Role Models For Graduates

BANGI, 27 Feb 2013 – Some 2,000 students from The National University of Malaysia (UKM) and other universities in the Klang valley for the first time took part in a forum on the importance of the role of women entrepreneurs.

Jointly organised by UKM’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprise Development (CESMED) and the Centre for Women Leadership, the one-day forum was opened by wife of the Prime Minister, Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor here today.

Tun Fatimah Hashim Building and Gallery Opened In UKM

BANGI, 26 Jun 2013 – The National University of Malaysia (UKM) has set up a building and gallery in remembrance of the nation’s first woman minister, Tun Fatimah Hashim.

It is part of the women leadership centre set up by UKM on August 1, 2011.

The Building and Gallery was officially opened by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Hajah Rohani Haji Abdul Karim, here today.

Datuk Rohani said the naming the building after Tun Fatimah was insignificant compared to what she had done for women in the country and her contributions to the nation.

She described Tun Fatimah as a national heroine who fought for women rights regardless of race and religion.

Vietnam Women’s Union Visit To UKM

BANGI, 15 Nov 2013 – The Tun Fatimah Hashim Women’s Leadership Centre of The National University of Malaysia (UKM) is to undertake cooperation with Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) in line with its objective of training women to be leaders and important decision makers.

This follows a visit to the Centre by a VWU delegation here recently led by its Vice President, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha. She was accompanied by Ms Tranthi Mih Huong from the Union’s International Relations Department.

Director of the Centre, Asso Prof Dr Madeline Berma hoped the visit will be the starting point for the two entities to cooperate in the development of women in both countries.

She said the centre undertakes research into women and organise activities and training for them.
