UKM 49th Convocation
The 49th Convocation of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) on November 27, 2021, served as a momentous backdrop for celebrating the academic brilliance of our esteemed team member, Dr. Denesh Mohan. Held within the grand halls of Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak (DECTAR), the ceremony was a highlight of the Chancellor’s Session, presided over by Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir. For Dr. Denesh, this day was the culmination of years of rigorous intellectual pursuit in the field of Chemical & Process Engineering, marking a milestone that few achieve with such distinction.
Dr. Denesh’s journey to the convocation stage was marked by a rare “double crown” of success that underscores his exceptional discipline and dedication. He was officially conferred his PhD after being awarded the “Excellent Thesis” rating and achieving the highly coveted Graduate On Time (GOT) status. This dual achievement is particularly noteworthy in the demanding world of chemical engineering research, where balancing technical complexity with strict timelines is a constant challenge. His success reflects not only his individual tenacity but also the high standard of excellence fostered through his collaboration with the faculty.
Central to his academic triumph was his pioneering research, titled “Investigation of Bio-based Polymers from Lignin and Cellulose as Materials for Additive Manufacturing.” Under the expert guidance of his main supervisor, Ts. Dr. Mohd Shaiful bin Sajab, Dr. Denesh explored the innovative potential of natural plant-based materials to revolutionize the additive manufacturing (3D printing) industry. By transforming lignin and cellulose, abundant organic polymers into viable engineering materials, his work contributes significantly to the global shift toward sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing processes, positioning him as a leading voice in green material science.
As he walked across the stage to receive his scroll, Dr. Denesh represented the very best of our team’s values: innovation, perseverance, and academic integrity. This convocation was more than a formal ceremony; it was a celebration of a researcher who has translated complex laboratory findings into a meaningful contribution to the engineering world. We are incredibly proud to have him as a colleague and look forward to the continued impact of his expertise as he embarks on this next professional chapter. Congratulations, Dr. Denesh, on this stellar and well-deserved achievement.
