The INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ISLAMIC THOUGHT (IJIT) is an internationally refereed online journal (e-ISSN 2289-6023) and printed journal (ISSN 2232-1314) jointly published by the Department of Theology and Philosophy, National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and the International Society of Muslim Philosophers and Theologians (ISOMPT). The Society is registered in Malaysia under Malaysian Registrar of Societies -ROS (PPM-011-10-02082012). IJIT is an Open Access Journal that users have the right to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles. The international perspective of the journal reflected by its international authors, international editors, international reviewers, international member of advisory board, international access and its trilingual approach (English, Arabic and Malay). Founded in 2012, IJIT published in June and December annually. It is open to authors around the world regardless of the nationality. All published articles will be assigned DOI (https://doi.org/10.24035) provided by Crossref. IJIT supports Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing.


AIM

The mission of the International Journal of Islamic Thought (IJIT) is to encourage scholarly research in Islamic thought and Muslim contemporary issues.  IJIT provides a venue for academics, and researchers to publish current and significant research as well as other publication activities, such as book and article reviews. The specific objectives of the Journal are:

  • To offer a forum for publishing high quality research in Islamic thought.
  • To present new ideas and philosophical findings in Islamic thought and Muslim current issues.
  • To promote greater exchange of information between the various scholars in Islamic studies around the world. It is not limited to Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.
  • To disseminate cutting-edge research that explores the interrelationship between Islamic thought and Muslim issues in the following Scope.

PUBLICATION OF ARTICLE TYPES

  • Original Research Articles: Research papers report original research in all fields of Islamic Thought and must aim at a wide readership. Research papers must have a maximum of 20 references. Word count: 4,000 words (excluding abstract and references).
  • Review Articles: Concise reviews should be less than 1500 words (including references but excluding tables and figure).
  • Book Reviews: Book reviews should be about 2000 words (including references but excluding tables and figure).
  • Research Notes: They are discussion notes, seeking to advance a new idea, theoretical perspective, research program, or methodological approach in organization studies. Length of text should be around 1,000-1,200 words.


PEER REVIEW POLICY

Editorial Board Members may provide advice on manuscripts submitted but are not involved in the final decisions. Manuscripts submitted to IJIT are assessed by our experienced in-house editorial team, who take all decisions based on an extensive and rigorous peer review process by academic experts who specialize in the manuscript topic.  Peer reviewers are expert chosen by journal editors to provide written assessment of the strengths and weakness of article with the aim of producing the highest quality material of the journal. They are selected based on expertise in a specific field (i.e. Islamic thought) nomination by existing editorial board members, and other factors. Peer reviewers for the journal are also selected by the Editor-in-Chief.  All manuscripts are subjected to rigorous double -blind peer review -the identity of the peer reviewers is not revealed to the authors, and the identity of the authors is not revealed to the reviewers, as long as the authors have adequately removed all identifying information from the manuscript. The review process involves an objective assessment of the scientific rigor of the research as well its significance and contribution to advancing knowledge in the field of Islamic thought. PUBLICATION ETHICS

IJIT is a member of, and subscribes to the principles of, the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (https://www.ukm.my/ijit/ethics-statement/). IJIT does not accept any type of Plagiarism -the use of any material and ideas developed or created by another person without acknowledging the original source. To avoid any form of plagiarism, each manuscript newly submitted to IJIT will be reviewed by the reviewers in the field and by using iThenticate. By submitting an article, authors are thereby asserting that their work is entirely original and that others’ work or text has been appropriately cited or attributed. The re-use of one’s own published work without appropriate citation (self-plagiarism) is also unethical.

NEW SUBMISSION

  • All submissions must comply with Journal style as outlined in IJIT Guidelines to authors (https://www.ukm.my/ijit/guidelines/). We do strongly encourage authors to write concisely and to adhere to the IJIT Guidelines.
  • The corresponding author has to be designated as the first author with contact details. Full names and affiliations of all authors, and complete postal and email addresses are required.
  • All manuscripts must have:
    • Title (if not in English, it must be translated into English).
    • Abstracts (Must be written in English. The abstract should include a few sentences of background to the work, the rationale, and the main results and conclusions not exceed 200 words).
    • Keywords (not exceed 5 keywords).
    • Main Texts (Sections and subsections are not numbered. Footnotes are not allowed). Word count: 4,000 words.
    • References (All references mentioned in the Reference List are cited in the text, and vice versa). References should be placed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper and should be in Roman script.
    • Acknowledgements (optional-should follow immediately after the end of the main text. In references to granting agencies, the names should be written out fully).
  • Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract, a published lecture or academic thesis). That it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The corresponding author should declare regarding this issue when submitting the paper to the Editor-in Chief by submitting Author’s Agreement and Declaration Form (https://www.ukm.my/ijit/authors-agreement-and-declaration-form/).
  • The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to make a final decision on publication as well as the right to make alterations.

TIMELINE

Papers can be submitted to the journal at any time, but submitted papers are batched and reviewed in cycles with strict deadlines. IJIT uses the following cycles for each volume:

  • Notification of Receipt: within a week after submission.
  • Notification of Acceptance: 6 weeks.
  • Revised submission: 4 weeks.
  • Final Notification: 2 weeks.
  • Publication: Last week of June/December.
