General Entry Requirements

Applicants shall have the following qualification:

    • Bachelor’s Degree from UKM or other institution of higher learning recognised by the MQR with minimum CGPA 2.75 and above; or
    • Other qualifications equivalent to Graduate of Islamic Studies Degree or working experience recognised by the Senate; or
    • Other qualifications recognised by the Senate obtained through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) or through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL); and;
    • Language requirement**

Language Proficiency Requirements

  1. Malay language (compulsory for international candidate. International students are required to take three-unit Bahasa Melayu language courses as stipulated by the University. Exemption may be given to candidates who have taken Bahasa Melayu courses conducted by institutions recognized by the Senate of the University.
  2. Arabic language (Exemption is given to the candidate where the Arabic Language is the official language or uses as the medium of instruction.
  3. English Language proficiency compulsory for international candidate. The requirements is as follows;
    1. Obtained TOEFL (416) or IELTS (4.0) results; or
    2. Candidate is required to sit for an English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he/she fails to achieve the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM) in a maximum period of two (2) semesters before he/she is allowed to register for the study programme. The candidate shall register as a Non Graduating Student.
    3. For an international candidate who will be writing his thesis/dissertation in the Malay/Arabic languages, he/she may be exempted from the requirements stated in paragraph (2), but the candidate shall sit for the English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he/she fails to obtain the level specified by the programme, the candidate is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).
    4. An international candidate who has the academic qualifications obtained from any local universities recognised by the Senate may be exempted from the requirements stated in paragraph (2), but the candidate shall sit for the English Proficiency Placement Test (EPPT) and if he fails to obtain the level specified by the programme, he is required to attend and pass the English Proficiency Module (EPM).
    5. The Faculty may grant exemption to the requirements specified in subregulation (1) for the international candidate who is originally from a country where the English Language is the official language or has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institution which uses the English Language as the medium of instruction.
