Pusat IDEA, together with UKM Research Clusters, successfully conducted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Activity and a Community Brainstorming Workshop on 12 August 2025 at EKOMAR, Mersing, Johor.
In the morning session, the CSR programme themed βZero Waste, Zero Plasticβ brought together 88 participants from various government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), including the Mersing District Office, Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF), Department of Social Welfare, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Mersing District Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM), and the Mersing Fishermenβs Association.
This initiative aimed to raise environmental sustainability awareness while strengthening collaboration between the university, community, and relevant agencies in support of sustainable development.
In the afternoon, a Community Brainstorming Workshop was held with the participation of 22 community representatives, comprising village heads, community leaders, small and medium enterprise (SME) operators, tourism operators, food business owners, and representatives from Womenβs and Single Mothersβ Associations.
The discussion focused on sustainability initiatives, community development in Mersing, and potential strategic collaborations under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the Mersing Tourism Association (MTA).
