Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and K.I.T.A GEMPUR Consumer Advocacy Programme with the Lenggong Geopark Community

Pusat IDEA, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), together with the university’s Research Clusters and University Research Groups (KPU), the Gerakan Pengguna Siswa (GPS) UKM, and in collaboration with Friends of Lenggong (FoL), organised a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and K.I.T.A GEMPUR Consumer Advocacy Programme with stakeholders of Lenggong Geopark, Perak, from 29 to 31 December 2025.

The three-day programme combined consumer advocacy initiatives, field visits, and focus group discussions aimed at gathering strategic insights from stakeholders regarding the sustainable development of the Lenggong Geopark community. The initiative focused on strengthening consumer awareness among the local community while empowering local entrepreneurs and community members through active participation in discussions related to community-driven development.

Throughout the programme, discussions also explored the potential development of Geoeducation Tourism as a strategic approach to harness the unique heritage and natural resources of Lenggong. In addition, engagement sessions with community representatives provided an opportunity to discuss the preparation of community documentation for registration with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) Malaysia, as part of efforts to strengthen local community organisational structures.

The integration of focus group discussions, K.I.T.A GEMPUR consumer advocacy activities, and field visits helped to deepen mutual understanding and enhance collaboration with the Lenggong Geopark community in advancing sustainable economic development. Through a collaborative approach involving academia, community stakeholders and relevant agencies, the programme is expected to serve as a catalyst for inclusive and resilient socio-economic development within the Lenggong Geopark area.
