Pusat IDEA of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) conducted an official courtesy visit to the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) on 23 February 2026 at the ASM headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
The visit aimed to explore potential strategic collaboration in the fields of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) as well as social science research to support national development agendas through evidence-based knowledge and policy contributions. The UKM delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Jamia Azdina Jamal, Director of Pusat IDEA UKM, and was received by Puan Hazami Habib, Chief Executive Officer of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, together with senior ASM officials.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on opportunities to strengthen high-impact translational research ecosystems and to collaborate in contributing to evidence-based public policy development. The discussion also emphasised the importance of foresight approaches in identifying emerging strategic areas that could be jointly explored through future collaborations between UKM and ASM.
As a follow-up, the outcomes of the discussion will be further refined through internal consultations within UKM, guided by the framework of the university’s five research clusters and six Grand Research Challenges, before proceeding to further engagements with ASM. This collaboration is expected to strengthen strategic networks between academic institutions and national thought leadership bodies in advancing knowledge development, innovation, and impactful public policy for the nation.
