Pusat IDEA of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), together with the university’s Research Clusters and University Research Groups (KPU), conducted a series of strategic courtesy visits to key organisations and agencies in the state of Perak from 4 to 6 February 2026 in support of the Lenggong Geopark Project.
The visits were organised as a follow-up to the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and Consumer Advocacy Programme previously held with stakeholders of Lenggong Geopark. The delegation engaged with three key organisations, namely the Registrar of Societies (ROS) Malaysia, Think City Sdn. Bhd., and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC).
The engagement with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) aimed to obtain guidance and insights regarding the establishment of organisations related to the Geopark initiative and the Friends of Lenggong (FoL) network, while also exploring opportunities for sharing data on registered organisations that may support future research and innovation initiatives. Meanwhile, discussions with MOTAC and Think City provided an opportunity to present research ideas related to the development of Lenggong Geopark, which were formulated based on outcomes from the earlier FGD sessions. These meetings also explored potential avenues for strategic collaboration and funding support to strengthen the implementation of the proposed initiatives.
The discussions yielded several key outcomes, including the sharing of information on databases of registered organisations relevant for research and innovation activities, agreement on community implementation partners for applications under the Social Innovation Fund (DIS), and proposals to focus on initiatives such as GeoYouth and GeoEntrepreneur through the preparation of project proposals to secure funding. The participating agencies also expressed readiness to support the implementation of research, tourism, and community socio-economic empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development in the Lenggong area.
Overall, these strategic engagements reflect the continued commitment of Pusat IDEA UKM and its collaborators in strengthening partnerships with government agencies, organisations, and local communities to advance the development of Lenggong Geopark as a sustainable ecosystem for education, research, and community-based tourism.
