Workshop

IPSIR4.0 is offering two online workshops:
Date: 8 July 2021 (Thursday)
Time: 2:00PM – 5:00PM
Venue: Online
Due date for workshop registration: 1 July 2021

1. Augment Reality Workshop

Facilitator: Mrs Rimaniza Binti Zainal Abidin (CV)

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology which combines real and virtual worlds, registers the virtual object with the real world and AR must be interactive in real time. This workshop introduces participants to AR concepts. Through lecture and hands-on approach, participants will have an opportunity to learn about high-quality AR frameworks such as Unity and Vuforia.

Unity is a game engine developed by Unity Technologies and it is first released in June 2005. The engine has been extended to a variety of platforms including desktop, mobile and virtual reality platforms. It is used for mobile game development such as Pokémon Go, Beat Saber, etc. It can be used to create 3D and 2D games, as well as interactive simulations.

The Vuforia Engine package will also be demonstrated to add to a Unity project. It is used to develop augmented reality (AR) applications on mobile devices. Participants will have an opportunity to learn how to use the computer vision technology to recognise and track 3D objects in real time.

Through the combination of traditional lecture and hands-on works, participants will learn to create their own AR application and design their application creatively.

2. Cloud Based IoT System Development Using ThingsSentral

Facilitators: Muhammad Hassan bin Shamsul Akmar (CV) & Ammar Syafiq bin Sabaahul Ahmad (CV)

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to ThingsSentral, a cloud based IOT development platform developed by a group of engineers in the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Participants will learn how to use ThingsSentral user interface to create a cloud based IOT system that can collect, store, and retrieve data via HTTP protocol and the Internet. The cloud based IOT will be able to read & send data from or to hardware microcontrollers such as Node MCU and Raspberry Pi and devices such as Smartphones and Computers. ThingsSentral has been succesfully used to create applications for Smart Farming, Smart Ambient Monitoring, Energy Consumption Monitoring and several others. For this workshop, participants can lear how to quickly collect data from their Android based smartphones and send those data to a cloud based IOT dashboard developed using ThingsSentral.

This workshop will cover topics on:

  • Introduction to Cloud Based System Introduction to Internet of Things (IOT)
  • Introduction to Cloud Based IOT System
  • Development of Simple Cloud Based IOT System Using Arduino (Theory)
  • Development of Simple Cloud Based IOT System Using Android Based Smartphone (Theory & Practical)
