The pursuit of what is lawful (halal) and the avoidance of what is prohibited (haram) is a fundamental requirement in Islam. Wholesome and permissible food (halalan tayyiban) refers to food that is balanced, nutritious, and free from harmful substances. The rapid expansion of product development, driven by advancements in modern industries such as livestock farming, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, has brought to the forefront contemporary issues regarding the use of vaccines and treatments derived from amphibious animals and their eggs. This study focuses on the legal rulings concerning amphibious animals and their eggs in general, and specifically on treatments derived from them. The research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing library research, descriptive, comparative, and content analysis methods applied to Islamic jurisprudential (fiqh) and scientific sources. The findings indicate that amphibious animals are deemed prohibited (haram) due to their impurity, toxicity, and harmful effects, while their eggs are considered pure and permissible (halal) provided they are non-toxic and non-harmful. This study is particularly relevant in clarifying the ambiguous legal status of vaccines and pharmaceuticals derived from amphibious animals, assisting authorities such as the Halal Hub Division of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in determining legal rulings related to halal certification and consumer usage.
