The Journal of Contemporary Islamic Law (JCIL) welcomes the submission of original, high-quality scholarly manuscripts throughout the year. Manuscripts should contribute to the advancement of contemporary Islamic law and related interdisciplinary fields.
All submissions must be made electronically through the JCIL Online Submission System (Open Journal Systems – OJS).
Submissions by email are not accepted.
Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that:
- The manuscript falls within the Aims and Scope of JCIL.
- The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration by another journal.
- The manuscript has been prepared according to the JCIL Author Guidelines and the official Article Template.
- All required declarations (Conflict of Interest, AI Declaration, Funding, Data Availability, Ethics Approval, and Author Contributions, where applicable) have been completed.
- The manuscript complies with the journal’s formatting and referencing requirements.
- The manuscript is ready for double-blind peer review, with all author-identifying information removed from the main manuscript.
Failure to comply with these requirements may result in the manuscript being returned for technical revision before editorial consideration.
Authors are required to submit manuscripts through the JCIL Online Submission System.
Before making a submission, authors must:
- Register for an author account (or log in if already registered).
- Complete all required metadata, including author information, affiliations, ORCID (if available), title, abstract, and keywords.
- Upload the manuscript and any supplementary files.
- Confirm compliance with the Submission Checklist.
- Complete the submission and retain the confirmation email for future reference.
Authors may monitor the progress of their submissions at any time by logging into their OJS account.
JCIL operates a double-blind peer review system.
To preserve reviewer anonymity, authors must not include any identifying information within the manuscript, including:
- author names;
- institutional affiliations;
- acknowledgements;
- funding information that identifies the authors;
- ORCID identifiers;
- self-identifying citations or statements where possible;
- document properties or file metadata that reveal author identity.
Author information should only be entered in the submission metadata within the online submission system.
Upon submission, every manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment to determine whether it:
- falls within the journal’s scope;
- complies with the Author Guidelines;
- satisfies formatting requirements;
- meets the journal’s ethical standards;
- passes the similarity screening; and
- is suitable for external peer review.
Manuscripts that do not satisfy these requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected without external review.
Before submitting your manuscript, please confirm that:
- The manuscript is original and has not been submitted elsewhere.
- The manuscript has been prepared using the latest JCIL Article Template.
- The manuscript follows the JCIL Author Guidelines.
- The manuscript is anonymised for double-blind peer review.
- The overall similarity index is less than 20%, excluding references, quotations, and bibliographic material.
- A Conflict of Interest Declaration has been included.
- An Artificial Intelligence (AI) Declaration has been included.
- All references follow the APA 7th Edition referencing style.
- The reference list is prepared in Times New Roman (Roman), 10-point font, with a hanging indent.
- All required declarations and supporting information have been completed.
After a successful submission, authors will receive an acknowledgement email.
The manuscript will then proceed through the following stages:
- Editorial Screening
- Double-Blind Peer Review
- Editorial Decision
- Author Revision (if required)
- Final Acceptance
- Copyediting and Typesetting
- Proofreading
- Publication
Authors may track the status of their manuscripts through the online submission system throughout the review process.
Manuscripts should be submitted via the JCIL Online Submission System:
