Family Medicine Guest Lecture Series (FMGLS)

The Family Medicine Guest Lecture Series (FMGLS) is a longstanding tradition at the Department of Family Medicine, UKM, dating back to the late 1990s. It involves external examiners, often renowned experts in the field, sharing their experiences and research interests from primary care practice in their respective countries. Notable speakers have included Professor Dr John Murtagh, Professor Dr Azeem Majeed from Imperial College UK, and Professor Dr Samuel Wong from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

The FMGLS serves as a platform for academics to engage in a valuable sharing and learning experience, overcoming logistic challenges associated with professional master’s clinical examination processes in the discipline. With a conjoint board membership spanning six universities, the rotation of hosting external examiners allows for increased engagement with family medicine practitioners globally. In the latest instalment of FMGLS, Professor Dr Constance Dimity Pond from the University of Tasmania, Australia, served as the external examiner for the National Conjoint Board for the Discipline of Family Medicine’s Parts 2 and 3 exams in November 2023. The event, attended by academicians and Family Medicine Specialists from various institutions, featured Professor Pond’s talk on “Family Medicine management of chronic disease in the presence of cognitive impairment,” followed by a lively Q&A session. Sponsored by the National Conjoint Board for Family Medicine, the evening concluded with a buffet dinner at Latest Recipe Restaurant at the same hotel.

The event supports SDG 3, 4,10 and 17.
