Introduction.

Malaysian Cohort project is a long-term research project, aimed at building a comprehensive resource for researchers in Malaysia. This is a national project that was initiated by the Prime Minister in 2004 and approved by the cabinet in 2005.

The Malaysian Cohort is also part of the Asia Cohort Consortium, an international collaborative consortium of 8 countries including Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, China, India, Singapore, Malaysia and the United States. The consortium aims to coordinate and cooperate in combining resources and expertise to investigate the interaction of genes, environment and lifestyle causes of disease.

By focusing on genetic information, data, lifestyle and environmental exposures, this project aims to identify the risk factors accurately and find new biomarkers for various diseases. Biotechnology research in health promotion is consistent with the basic thrust of the Malaysian Biotechnology Policy launched.
