Applicants must possess an APEL.A Certificate issued by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) at Level 6 of the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF);

and

obtain at least Band 2.0 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) for examinations commencing from Session 1, 2021 onwards, or Band 2 for examinations taken up to 2020, within the validity period at the date of application;

and

pass the test and/or interview determined by the faculty.

English Language Requirements

International students must fulfill the English language requirement by achieving a specified result in IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, or any examination aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) that meets the minimum score or band requirement set by their respective programs and approved by the Senate.

International students who do not meet the English language competence requirements may be given a Conditional Offer as follows: 

• Students are allowed to attend an internal English Preparatory Course at UKM for a maximum period of two (2) years, subject to the current regulations of the Immigration Department of Malaysia; and
• International students attending the internal English Preparatory Course must sit for the IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, or any CEFR-aligned examination to fulfil the English language competence requirements.

The list of examinations aligned with CEFR is subject to the list approved by the Senate from time to time.
The Faculty/Institute may grant an exemption from the specified requirements to:

International students originating from countries that use English as an official language; or
International students who hold academic qualifications from institutions that fully use English as the medium of instruction and intend to pursue higher-level studies at UKM.

Doctoral Degree (Research Mode):
Full-time: 6 to 12 semesters
Part-time: 8 to 14 semesters

Master’s Degree (Coursework / Mixed Mode):
Full-time: 2 to 4 semesters
Part-time: 4 to 8 semesters

Master’s Degree (Research Mode):
Full-time: 4 to 6 semesters
Part-time: 6 to 8 semesters

Applications must be submitted online via https://www.ukm.my/join/.

Applications for Coursework and Mixed Mode programmes are open twice a year:

• October for the March intake of the following year; and
• April for the October intake of the same year.

  Applications for Research Mode programmes are accepted throughout the year.
