Background
The management of sustainability at UKM began in 2007 when the National University of Malaysia Development Unit prepared the UKM Bangi’s Physical Campus Development Master Plan 2007-2020. This is a strategic plan of UKM to regulate aspects of its development in order to be sustainable in the aspects of infrastructure development, space requirements, environmental conservation, energy and solid waste management, landscape, campus facilities and cultivation of sustainable life. This plan was first published in November 2008 by the Institute of Environment and Development (LESTARI) UKM led by Datin Paduka Dr. Halimaton Saadiah as the Head of the UKM Sustainable Campus Group and a Senior Fellow at LESTARI.
