About

This webpage is about people in Malaysia who study human brain function using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technique and their research. The data obtained from their study are analyzed using statistical parametric mapping (SPM) and dynamic causal modeling (DCM).

There are about eleven active people in this community at the moment. They come from various disciplines and backgrounds. They are scientists, radiographers, researchers, academics, and postgraduates who are pursuing their Ph.D. This community is based in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Kuala Lumpur. Individual researchers however are in various institutions, such as in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Kubang Kerian, KPJ Healthcare University College Negri Sembilan, Advance Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) USM Penang, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Asean Metropolitan University (AMU) Kuala Lumpur.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) research in the country started in the year 2004. The statistical parametric mapping (SPM) was the only known analytical framework for fMRI data analysis in the country, at that time. The first SPM version used by us is SPM2.

SPM is developed under the auspices of the Functional Imaging Laboratory (FIL), the Wellcome Trust Centre for NeuroImaging (WTCN), in the Institute of Neurology at University College London (UCL), UK. This webpage also contains tutorials on how to implement SPM analysis onto an fMRI dataset.

Presently used SPM versions among our members are version 2008 (SPM8) and version 2012 (SPM12).
