This section assists in the application of the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) / Calling Visa, Employment Pass, Dependant Pass and Professional Visit Pass for the international staff appointed in UKM.

Visa Approval Letter (VAL) / Calling Visa

Visa Approval Letter (VAL) is a Single Entry Visa issued by the Malaysian Embassy / Consulate abroad to a non-citizen to enable individuals to enter Malaysia after the visa is approved by the Immigration Department Headquarters. The application must be submitted through UKM upon received the appointment letter before the applicant enter Malaysia. The Single Entry Visa will be changed to the Multiple Entry Visa once the applicant arrived in UKM. This will allow holders for travel purposes.

VAL is required for appointment under the Employment Pass, Dependants Pass and Professionals Visit Pass to avoid the penalty charge (Journey Perform) from Malaysian Immigration Department.

Employment Pass

• A minimum salary of RM 5,000.00
• A minimum contract 12 months for new application and for renewal minimum 3 months contract

Dependant Pass

Dependent pass can be issued to the following people.

• Wife or husband of applicant.
• Children of applicant under 18 years.
• Legally adopted children of applicant under 18 years.

Professional Visit Pass (IKHTISAS)

• International staff who are not receiving salary OR who only receive the honorarium payment.
• Each application is for a maximum period of 12 months onlyas per contract.
• Please ensure before submission that the applicant has a passport validity of at least 12 months.
• Application of VAL must be submitted to UKM before the applicant entered Malaysia.
• Application is for principal submission only and no dependents are allowed.
• Position available for IKHTISAS:
  • Researcher / Assistant Researcher
  • Doctoral fellow
  • Invited Lecturer ( Visiting Lecturer/Visiting Professor/ Invited Professor)
  • Attending course/training/seminar
  • Student under practical training /Internship (have MOU with UKM)
