Publication of Article Types

  • Original Research Articles
    Original research articles should report substantial, original, and methodologically sound scholarly research within the broad field of Islamic thought. Submissions should make a clear contribution to existing knowledge and be written for an international and interdisciplinary readership. Manuscripts should demonstrate relevance to the journal’s scope, analytical depth, theoretical or empirical significance, and academic rigour. Original research articles should normally be between 4,000 and 8,000 words, excluding the abstract and references.
  • Review Articles
    Review articles should present a concise, critical, and systematic synthesis of existing scholarship on a clearly defined topic relevant to Islamic thought. Submissions should identify key debates, evaluate current developments in the field, and highlight gaps or directions for future research. Review articles should not exceed 1,500 words, including references but excluding tables and figures.
  • Book Reviews
    Book reviews should provide a critical and balanced assessment of recently published works that fall within the scope of the journal. Reviews should discuss the book’s objectives, scholarly contribution, originality, structure, methodology, argumentation, and relevance to Islamic thought or related disciplines. Book reviews should normally be approximately 2,000 words, including references but excluding tables and figures.
  • Research Notes
    Research notes are short scholarly contributions that present preliminary findings, develop a new concept, propose a theoretical perspective, outline a research agenda, or discuss an innovative methodological approach relevant to Islamic thought and related fields. Submissions should be focused, analytically clear, and capable of stimulating further academic discussion. Research notes should normally be between 1,000 and 1,200 words.
