Research summary

Dr Shiow-Fern Ng received her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2007 from the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK). She is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Pharmacy UKM.

She holds many administrative positions in the Faculty. This includes the Coordinator of e-Learning (2012-2017), Coordinator of Discipline of Pharmaceutics (2018-2021), Chair of the Centre of Drug Delivery Technology Research (2020-2022). She is a registered pharmacist and currently she serves as the President of the MyCRS, Controlled Release Society the Malaysia Local Chapter (2018-2020).

Throughout her academic career, she has obtained publication award in top tier Journals (2016, 2017, 2018), Teaching Innovation Award (2014, 2017), Outstanding industry collaboration award (2017).

Her current research interests focus on drug delivery, through the exploitation of delivery of therapeutic agents to chronic wounds as well as the application of various biopolymers for the retention and delivery of active compounds, for a variety of potential wound therapeutic applications. As of 2020, she has supervised 6 PhD students and 11 Masters students. Research collaborators include local pharmaceutical industries and institutions as well as institutions in South East Asia – Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam. Dr Ng also works very closely with wound care unit in Kuala Lumpur General Hospital to translate her research output into potential clinical applications
