The programs offered are in research mode only on a full-time or part-time in the following studies:

Master of Letters
Applicants must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s Degree recognized by the Government of Malaysia in a field related to the programme applied for, with a minimum CGPA of 2.75 or its equivalent;
OR - A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a CGPA between 2.50 and 2.74, subject to rigorous internal assessment;
OR - A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field with a CGPA between 2.00 and 2.49, along with at least five (5) years working experience in the relevant field, subject to rigorous internal assessment;
OR - Other qualifications recognized by the Senate, including those obtained through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Applicants must fulfill one of the following criteria:
- A Master’s Degree from UKM or any institution recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and/or accredited by relevant international accreditation bodies, as determined by the specific programme;
OR - A qualification equivalent to a Master’s Degree, or other qualifications and experience recognized by the Senate;
OR - Currently enrolled full-time in a research-mode Master’s programme at UKM and recommended by the Institute’s Postgraduate Committee for conversion to PhD, with the approval of the Director and subject to compliance with MQA’s Standards for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees (MDD);
OR - A Bachelor’s Degree with excellent academic performance from UKM or any recognized institution, with the approval of the Institute’s Postgraduate Committee and compliance with MQA’s Standards for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees (MDD);
OR - Other qualifications recognized by the Senate, including those obtained through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
English Language Requirements (For International Students)
a. International students must meet one of the following minimum English language proficiency scores:

Other English proficiency examinations aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) are also accepted. Results must be submitted during the application process.
b. Applicants may be offered conditional admission, subject to the following:
i. The student must enroll in UKM’s internal English Preparatory Course, with a maximum duration of two (2) years, and comply with current Malaysian Immigration regulations;
ii. Students must subsequently sit for IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, HEET or any other CEFR-aligned examination to meet the required proficiency level.
iii. Exemptions may be granted to:
- Applicants from countries where English is the official language;
- Applicants who has the academic qualifications obtained from any higher learning institution which uses the English Language as the medium of instruction.
c. Nusantara international applicants may be granted flexibility with regard to the English language requirement.

1. All candidates are required to write their thesis in Bahasa Malaysia.
2. Candidates who wish to write their thesis in English must submit a written request to the Director of ATMA at the beginning of their university admission process, no later than the fourth (4th) semester for master’s students and the sixth (6th) semester for doctoral students.
3. Approval to write in English may be granted subject to the following conditions:
(a) The candidate is an international student;
(b) Scholarship requirements;
(c) Employer requirements;
(d) Supervisor/examiner is from abroad.
