BANGI, 20 January 2025 –The Arabic Language Month organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in collaboration with the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language (KSGAAL) aims to foster a deeper appreciation of the Arabic language and its cultural heritage.
The four-day program event featured a wide array of activities, including Arabic language courses, academic forums, roundtable discussions, calligraphy competitions, and poetry contests.
In his address, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abd. Razak, highlighted the unparalleled status and immense significance of the Arabic language.
“As the language of the Holy Qur’an, Arabic language carries a spiritual weight that resonates deeply with over a billion Muslims around the world.
“Beyond its religious importance, Arabic is a treasure trove of knowledge, a bridge to a rich cultural heritage, and a key to understanding centuries of intellectual and artistic achievements.
“At our university, we firmly believe that learning Arabic is not merely an academic pursuit but a noble endeavor that enriches the soul and fosters understanding among diverse communities,” he said.
The program aims to serve as a vital platform for Arabic teachers, students, and non-native speakers to enhance their linguistic skills, appreciate Arab culture, and showcase their talents.
“Through the carefully curated activities, we aim to strengthen the ties of cooperation between this university and the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, who share a common vision to promote the Arabic language,” Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohamad added.
According to him, as the first university in the country to establish a Faculty of Islamic Studies and teach Arabic at the tertiary level, UKM has laid a strong foundation for Arabic language education.
“Today, our Faculty of Islamic Studies offers five comprehensive study programs, and all its students are required to study Arabic.
“Additionally, Arabic elective courses are available to students from other faculties, reflecting our commitment to making this beautiful language accessible to all,” he said.
