Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) @ FFar UKM

Background

The Faculty of Pharmacy actively supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through various platforms, including teaching and learning, research and innovation, and community services.

In general, our academic programmes are designed to produce competent professionals who will contribute to the health and wellness of the people. Courses like Public Health Pharmacy focus on topics relevant to sustainability, such as access to medicines.

Our research and innovation are dedicated to enhancing health and well-being. The primary research theme revolves around the management of non-communicable diseases and their complications. Additionally, we focus on the development of improved professional services as part of our research endeavors.

Activities

TEAM BUILDING 2025

This program involved the participation of 64 staff members from the Faculty of Pharmacy (19 men, 45 women) and was conducted over 3 days and 2 nights. Among the main activities were a Night Jungle Walk and wildlife observation, jungle trekking to Bukit Teresik, a visit to an Orang Asli village, as well as group tasks and presentations emphasizing communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and the use of recycled materials in producing creative art.  
 
This to encourage a healthy lifestyle and mental well-being among faculty members; to increase awareness of environmental conservation and biodiversity; and to cultivate a positive work culture that supports SDG 3, SDG 8, and SDG 15.  
 

URBAN GARDEN PROJECT 2024/2025

The activities included cleaning of the planting area, workshops and hands-on sessions on seedling propagation, an Urban Garden Talk, tree-planting activities, as well as the launching of the Eco-Campus Project and Fiesta. All activities were conducted within the Faculty of Pharmacy grounds and Lecture Hall 3, with emphasis on green practices and cross-faculty collaboration.  
 
This project successfully cultivated sustainability awareness among students and staff, fostered a spirit of collaboration between faculties, and created a greener and healthier faculty environment. It also contributed to reducing air pollution and enhancing micro-biodiversity on campus.  

EKOFARMA CARNIVAL 2025

Knowledge-sharing sessions on ‘Urban Garden’ and ‘Natural Cosmetics’; an interactive ‘Cosmetics Workshop’; plant booths and green sales stalls; as well as collaborative activities with students from Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih.  
 
This program enhanced awareness of sustainable practices and the concept of a green economy; nurtured communication, leadership, and teamwork skills; encouraged integration between education, small green industries, and the local community; and contributed to a faculty and community environment that is more conscious of ecological responsibility.  

EFEC 2025 (EDUCULTURAL-RESEARCH FUSION EXCHANGE PROGRAMME)

Educultural Research Fusion Exchange 2025. This programme was successfully provide enrichment & enjoyable experiences to pharmacy students from neighbouring countries. It also allows participants to gain insights into pharmacy practices in Malaysia and the opportunity to explore popular destinations and experience the unique culture of malaysians tradition and cuisines.

Date: 22nd – 29th of July 2025

Participant : 40 international participant from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, United Kingdom and Vietnam

PHARMACY AWARENESS PROGRAM

SKIN HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN 

‘A HEALTHY SKIN, YOUR BEST FOUNDATION’  

 

This program is a hybrid health carnival, emphasizing community engagement and interaction on skincare topics while also creating social media posters to enhance public knowledge about medication and health while using skincare products. 

OPERASI KHIDMAT MASYARAKAT (OPKIM)

The Faculty of Pharmacy, UKM held a Community Service Operations program (OPKIM) at Kg Felda Lembah Klau Raub Pahang. This program involves Undergraduate and Master of Clinical Pharmacy students, Pharmacy Officers and lecturers from the Faculty of Pharmacy, UKM Alumni, Ministry of Health Malaysia PKD Raub, and Sekolah Kebangsaan (Felda) Lembah Klau. 

The main activities carried out are the Home Medication Review (HMR) for Felda residents suffering from chronic diseases, health awareness and screening programs for all Felda residents as well as youth sports and entertainment programs, cultural evenings and feasts in Felda and also educational programs at schools.
