Call for Application

The Institute of Malaysian and International Studies (IKMAS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), is pleased to announce the opening of applications for one (1) Research Fellowship at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, Germany, under the Erasmus+ Programme.

The Erasmus+ mobility programme is a flagship internationalisation initiative of the Centre for Occidental Studies (iKON) at IKMAS, reflecting our strong commitment to global academic collaboration and research excellence.This academic collaboration prioritises:

  1. The development of new area studies at IKMAS
  2. Cooperation in methodology training and applied social research

The fellowship is particularly suited to postgraduate students who intend to undertake regional and comparative research on governance, markets, social inclusion, or social policy in Germany.

Application Deadline: 30 March 2026

Fellowship Period: Between September 2026 – February 2027 (4 months)

Financial Support
• €900 per month (paid monthly via bank transfer to a German or EU bank account)
• A travel allowance €1,735 (covering flight and visa costs)

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in a research-based Master’s or PhD programme in the social sciences at IKMAS, UKM
    • Demonstrate strong academic performance
    • Meet English language proficiency requirements (minimum B-level)

Application Documents

Applicants are required to submit:

  1. Proof of current enrolment at UKM
  2. A research proposal including a clear work plan (maximum 5 pages)
  3. Academic transcripts
  4. English language proficiency certificate
  5. Proof of enrolment in a basic German course – not mandatory but preferably
  6. A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV)

 Selection Process

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • Academic performance and language proficiency (50%)
    • Quality, relevance, and feasibility of the proposed research project (50%)

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a formal interview conducted by the IKMAS/iKON selection committee.

Notification of Results

All applicants will be informed of the outcome by email no later than 13 April 2026. The selected candidate will commence the research fellowship in September 2026.
