UNESCO Chair

On February 22nd, 2019, the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA) of the National University of Malaysia (UKM) was awarded a UNESCO Chair on Social Practices in Intercultural Communication and Social Cohesion with KITA Founding Director, Distinguished Prof. Datuk Dr. Shamsul Amri Baharuddin, as the Chair holder. This is the very first UNESCO Chair to be awarded to UKM and the first in Malaysia within the field of intercultural communication, focusing on ethnic studies and social cohesion.

In 2023, the UNESCO Chair on Social Practices in Intercultural Communication and Social Cohesion at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia was renewed for an additional four years from 2023 to 2027 by the UNESCO Headquarters with KITA Founding Director, Distinguished Prof. Datuk Dr. Shamsul Amri Baharuddin, as the Chairholder and KITA Principal Research, Dr. Eric Olmedo Panal, as the Co-Chairholder.
