141 World Ranking, Congratulations UKM!

Malaysia is among the countries that show the best improvement in higher education rankings this year based on the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2021 report.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in a statement said it was after five Malaysian research universities managed to be in the group of 200 best universities in the world and one percent of the best in the world.

Leading the chart is the University of Malaya (UM) when the public university is ranked 59th in the list of the best universities in the world compared to the 70th place in 2019, thus maintaining the university’s position as the 100 best universities in the world.

Apart from UM, five other public universities, namely Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) managed to show a proud improvement to their position 550 best in the world.

UPM in 132nd position (2020: 159), UKM in 141st position (2020: 160), USM in 142nd position (2020: 165), followed by UTM in 187th position (2020: 217) , and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) ranked 531-540 (2020: 591-600).

This success is the best success in the country so far and proves that the direction of higher education in the country is on the right track in providing quality and excellent higher education institutions in line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan, 2015-2025 (Higher Education) (PPMPT).

This success will indirectly continue to position Malaysia as a hub for higher education in the region. In addition, it can also help institutions in establishing cooperation with the world’s leading researchers.
