Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) is a recognised approach that has been shown to be successful in providing positive spoken language outcomes for children with hearing loss. However, in Asia, the number of professionals skilled in AVT is quite limited. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia through the HEARS Centre is offering a professional certificate program that trains hearing professionals in the field of AVT. This is the only such program in the region conducted and accredited by a university. This program offers two AVT learning packages: The Clinical Package and the Theoretical Only Package.
The course will equip participants with the skills needed to become skilled Auditory-Verbal Therapy professionals, who master the latest knowledge, possess practical skills with a high level of competence, and advocate for the rights of the hearing-impaired population, in line with the needs of the country and the global community
Participants will be mentored closely by trained and experienced instructors
The course implements an interactive learning approach. Online materials and recorded lectures will be provided as reference.
Application of AVT principles, techniques and strategies in the prevention, evaluation and management of individuals with hearing loss
Identification of suitable counselling support for parents of children with hearing loss
Understanding concepts of hearing technologies that assist children with hearing loss
Posses a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Science/Audiology or related field of health sciences. International candidates should have a minimum score of 6 for IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
Exposure to diverse topics involving AVT principles, strategies & techniques for building listening and speaking skills of hearing impaired children
A total of 140 hours of intensive online sessions
Group discussions and assignments
Online lecture sessions with additional small group clinical mentoring through recorded sessions with patients

This year’s intake (2024) is open to Malaysians and Internationals who are undergoing training in the field of audiology, speech-language therapy, education for the deaf or other related fields.

🔰 Malaysian & International Candidates – Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Science/ Audiology or related field of health sciences, International candidates should have a minimum score of 6 for IELTS (International English Language Testing System).

🔰 Candidates must have worked and managed pediatric patients in their clinical practice.
