CITRA 2 – Language, Communication & Literacy

One of the main goals of UKM education is to produce graduates who are competent in various languages, especially Malay as the national language and English as a second language. Language, Communication and Literacy Citra include mastery of Malay and English in addition to mastering a relevant third language, namely local languages such as Mandarin and Tamil as well as foreign languages such as Arabic, Japanese and so on. This Citra involves various modalities, namely skills, usability and appropriateness of language. Multilingual and bilingual language proficiency and skills are the main requirements in addition to the mastery of a third language which is made an aspiration. It also includes the use of language that is relevant intra and interdisciplinarily, for example, “Scientific language adjustment”. The goal of Citra of Language, Communication and Literacy is the Citra of UKM graduates who have the confidence and language skills to communicate effectively and critically. These skills include confidence and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. This Citra aims to produce graduates who can convey information, evaluate, accept and give arguments and opinions in their respective disciplines effortlessly. It also aims to improve students’ oral communication skills, writing prudently in various contexts; in the context of today’s environment, commercial environment and cultural diversity. This Citra also aims to produce graduates with a high level of literacy who can understand and analyze information in various contexts or genres and have the ability to evaluate, analyze, synthesize and evaluate the information.

Citra Learning Outcomes (HPC 2) Language, Communication & Literacy

I. Able to apply and demonstrate oral and written communication skills in various contexts of today’s environment, commercial environment and cultural diversity. (C3)

II. Able to give feedback and explain opinions in their respective disciplines in an effortless manner. (P3)

III. Able to evaluate, synthesize and describe information in various contexts or ‘genres’ (A4)
