National Pharmacy Debate Competition (NPDC) 1

National Pharmacy Debate Competition (NPDC) is an annual debate competition held between all pharmacy students in Malaysia from different universities. This is the second time NPDC is being held and for this year the host was International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). I was glad to be one of the representatives of Faculty of Pharmacy UKM to join this event.

The style of debate that NPDC employed is the Asian Parliament (AP) style and all the motions were released earlier before the competition. Even though the motions are pre-released but there were still lots to expect from the competition.

We were blessed to have our senior, an ex-debater who was willing to guide us and provided us with important information as well as the points that we might use to succeed in each motion.  Not forgetting the training from Kolej Tun Syed Nasir (KTSN) Debater Club, simulation of the competition with lecturers and the debate skills lecture given by the lecturer from Faculty of Law regarding some rules and regulations that may be applied in ethical issues such as organ trading and so on.

The medicine-field related motions had granted me a golden opportunity to have a deeper exposure into the issues that exist nowadays in the world and also to study the complications within each of them. NPDC also opened my mind to critical and multi-perspective thinking. The three days spent in IIUM were indeed good memories by gaining experiences that I could never gain in the classroom.
