Bachelor of Nutrition Science with Honours

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Nutritional sciences is an interdisciplinary field that draws on biology, human behaviour, physical activity, psychology, food analysis, mathematics and health. Students taking this programme will complete a 4-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nutritional Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Students will learn the fundamentals of nutritional sciences; food manufacturing, processing and preservation; types of nutrients gained from different types of food; factors that influence food choices and food habit; the metabolic effect of food intake on health; as well as policies and regulatory bodies on nutrition and health. Officials and professionals from the private, government and NGO sectors (e.g. Ministry of Health, NADMA, CDERT, UNICEF) will be invited to share their experiences with the students and prepare them for the professional world of nutrition. The nutritionist profession, which is governed by the Allied Health Professions Act 2016 (Act 774), is in high demand following the growing trends in health sectors and efforts to reduce the high prevalence of overweight, obese and chronic diseases.
