Admission

Master Programme


• A bachelor’s degree with honours (minimum CPGA 2.70) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or its equivalent from any other recognized university or;
• For an honours degree of CPGA less than 2.70 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or its equivalent from any other recognized university, at least 3 years of experience in the relevant areas will be required.
• For International candidates from countries where English is not a medium of instruction, requirement for English Language is minimum 550 for TOEFL or minimum 5.5 for IELTS.


Doctor of Philosophy


• A Master’s degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or any other universities recognized by the Senate or;
• Any other qualification that is equivalent to the Master’s degree or experience recognized by the Senate.
• A bachelor’s degree with first class honours degree or equivalent and have obtained CPGA of at least 3.67 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or any other institution of higher learning recorgnised by the Senate.
• For International candidates from countries where English is not a medium of instruction, requirement for English Language is minimum 550 for TOEFL or minimum 5.5 for IELTS.


Additional Graduation Requirements


• Masters by research candidate must publish at least 1 journal paper in any ISI/Scopus indexed journal during the course of his/her study.
• PhD candidate must publish at least 2 journal papers in any ISI/Scopus indexed journal during the course of his/her study.
• The course KKKF6004 Research Methodology is compulsory for Masters and Doctorate levels by research.
• In addition, international students are required to enrol and pass for 2 Bahasa Melayu courses (each two credit units)

New graduate students
• All candidates who accept the offer of admission are required to register in person at the beginning of the semester at the Center for Academic Management (PPA) at Level 3, Block A of the Graduate Centre Building and the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment, UKM.
• A candidate is not allowed to register after the fourth (4) week of the semester except for a candidate of the research mode study only.
• A candidate may request to delay or postpone registration on reasonable grounds. Written request for any such postponement addressed to Center for Academic Management (PPA) shall be made within the first four weeks of each semester.
• A candidate who fails to register during the offered semester/session without written approval from the Dean of the Faculty to postphone the registration, the offer will be revoked.

Continuing graduate students
• All new and returning students will be required to register online via www.ukm.my/SMPweb, provided all payments have been made (outstanding plus current tuition fees).
• A candidate who fails to register within four (4) weeks after semester/session begins without written approval from the Dean of the Faculty to postphone his studies will be given a status of “Dismissed Due to Failure to Register”.

Deferment/Suspension of Study
• A student seeking leave of absence on medical grounds must provide a medical certificate from the UKM medical doctor. All applications for deferment shall be made using the pink form available at the Faculty Postgraduate Office.
• The period allowed for deferment of study programme is not less than one (1) semester and not more two (2) semesters.

Extension of time limits
• A student wishing to apply for an extension should consult and get approval from his/her supervisor and will be required to fill up the ‘Application to extend semester of study’ form available at the Faculty Postgraduate Office.

Students Who Has Submitted His/Her Thesis
A student who has submitted his/her thesis for examination is required to register to maintain his/her candidature status until the completion of the thesis examination. The student will be given an exemption of either 100% or 50% based on date of thesis submission, from paying registration fees for that semester.

Payment of Tuition Fees
Tuition fees for sponsored students are paid directly to the University by the sponsoring body. The holders of University scholarships which cover tuition fees are regarded as sponsored students for this purpose. Students who intend to pay their fees from their own funds are regarded as self-financed. Self-financed students have to pay their fees in full during registration.
