2018 Malaysia Update Seminar, Malaysia Institute, ANU, 11 October 2018

KITA Founding Director Distinguished Prof. Datuk Dr. Shamsul Amri Baharuddin chaired a panel on “Driving change: charismatic leaders and social media” in 2018 Malaysia Update “Regime Change in Malaysia: How, Why and the Future” seminar, organized by Malaysia Institute, Australian National University (ANU) on October 11, 2018. Speakers of the panel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bridget Welsh spoke about “Savior Politics in New Malaysia”; Dr. Sophie Lemiere on “One Malaysia Two Messiahs: Charisma, Politics and Power in Malaysia”, and Dr. Ross Tapsell on “The Smartphone as ‘weapon of the weak’ in GE14”.

The event took place at Weston Theatre, Australian National University, on 11 & 12 October 2018 also saw some familiar names among the attendees including Prof. Dr. Clive Kessler of University of New South Wales and Special Advisor to Education Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Wan Saiful Wan Jan.
