Master of Engineering In Civil Engineering
PROGRAMME SUMMARY
The Master of Civil Engineering programme is designed to produce graduates who are competent, ethical, and forward-thinking professionals in the field of civil engineering. Anchored on a comprehensive set of Programme Educational Objectives (PEO) and Programme Outcomes (PO), the programme nurtures individuals to become experts equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values required to meet the evolving challenges of the industry and society.
Graduates of this programme will:
Demonstrate advanced knowledge and practical expertise in civil engineering and its applications, positioning themselves as experts capable of addressing complex engineering challenges (PEO1, PO1–PO3, PO7).
Lead and communicate effectively, collaborating with stakeholders to foster innovative and impactful engineering practices (PEO2, PO5, PO6, PO8).
Exhibit a positive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to sustainability, continuously seeking personal and professional growth (PEO3, PO4, PO9, PO10).
Uphold high standards of ethics and professionalism, maintaining integrity and responsibility in all civil engineering practices (PEO4, PO11).
The programme’s outcome-driven approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared not only for advanced technical roles but also for leadership positions, research, and lifelong learning in civil engineering and related fields. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge, practical application, and values-based education, the programme contributes to the development of civil engineers who can drive progress and sustainability in the built environment
PROGRAMME CURRICULUM
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with Honours or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology (CGPA 2.5 or above, or its equivalent) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or an equivalent qualification from any recognized university; OR;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or in a related field or its equivalent (CGPA 2.0 – 2.49) may be accepted depending on a thorough internal evaluation; OR;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Honours (excluding engineering fields) or Bachelor’s Degree in Technology (excluding engineering fields) (minimum CGPA of 3.00) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or an equivalent qualification from any recognized university; OR;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Honours (excluding engineering fields) or Bachelor’s Degree in Technology (excluding engineering fields) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or an equivalent qualification from any recognized university (CGPA less than 3.00) may be accepted depending on a thorough internal evaluation; OR;
- Meeting the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL A) requirements for Malaysian citizens only:
- Aged at least 30 years old at the time of application;
- Holding a Diploma in Civil Engineering or a related field, and this qualification is recognized and accredited by the Government of Malaysia and approved by the Senate;
- Other equivalent qualifications; AND holding an MQA APEL certificate with MQF Level 7.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
- International students must meet the English language requirement by achieving a minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or its equivalent in any examination aligned with The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), as approved by the Senate.
- International students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirement may be given a Conditional Offer as follows:
- The student is allowed to take an internal English Preparation Course at UKM with a maximum duration of two (2) years, subject to the regulations of the Malaysian Immigration Department in force; and
- International students taking the internal English Preparation Course must sit for the IELTS, TOEFL, MUET, or any examination aligned with the CEFR to meet the English language proficiency requirement.
- The list of examinations aligned with the CEFR is subject to the list approved by the Senate from time to time.
- The Faculty/Institute may grant exemptions from the requirements stated in sub-regulations 5(1) and 5(2) to:
- International students from countries where English is an official language; or
- International students holding academic qualifications from institutions where English is the medium of instruction and who intend to pursue further studies at UKM.
MALAY LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:
International candidates are required to take a Malay language course as prescribed by the University. Exemptions may be granted to candidates who have completed a recognized equivalent Malay language course from other accredited bodies.
