2/20242025 KITA Postgraduate Colloquium Call for Participation, 7 April 2025

Dear KITA students,
1. As part of KITA postgraduate programmes’ assessment process, KITA students are required to present their research at KITA Postgraduate Colloquium at three stages: proposal, progress report and final draft.
2. As such, interested and eligible KITA students are invited to present and defend their Master/PhD research proposal or progress report at the upcoming KITA Postgraduate Colloquium for Semester 2 of 2024/2025 Academic Session, to be held on May 14th & 15th, 2025 (Wednesday & Thursday) at KITA Meeting Room, Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA).
ELIGIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS FOR RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRESENTATION
- Eligibility: Students who at minimum, are in their second semester (Master’s) or third semester (PhD) and have yet presented their research proposal are encouraged to present. Only active registered students are allowed to present.
- Requirement: A complete proposal (approx. 15-20 pages) which include (1) introduction, (2) research problem, (3) research objectives & questions, (4) summary of literature review (organized by thematic sections), (5) theoretical/conceptual framework, (6) research methodology, (7) scope of study, (8) significance of the study, and (9) chapter outline
- Research Ethics Requirement: Students are encouraged to fill in the research ethics approval application form – see below. For more details on the requirement to apply for research ethics approval, please refer to the KITA Research Ethics Committee (JEPKITA) page at KITA website. Any inquiries regarding application for research ethics approval should be directed to JEPKITA’s officer-in-charge.
ELIGIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS FOR RESEARCH PROGRESS REPORT PRESENTATION
- Eligibility: Students who already presented their proposal in a KITA Postgraduate Colloquium, and whose research has progressed to 75% of their research objectives. E.g., for a research with three research objectives, the progress report should be able to address at least the first and second research objectives (RO1 & RO2). For a research with more than four objectives, the progress report should be able to address the first, second and third research objectives (RO1, RO2 & RO3).
- PhD students who are in their fifth semester and beyond, and have yet to present their progress report, are encouraged to do so.
- Requirement: A progress report that addresses their current research development – refer to the details above.
- Research Ethics Requirement: Students are required to have begun or completed the research ethics application to JEPUKM via JEPKITA. For more details on the requirement to apply for research ethics approval, please refer to the KITA Research Ethics Committee (JEPKITA) page at KITA website. Any inquiries regarding application for research ethics approval should be directed to JEPKITA’s officer-in-charge.
3. Each presentation session comprises of three parts: (a) Presentation by student (15 minutes); (b) Review by a Reviewer (10 minutes); and (c) Q&A session from the audience (5 minutes).
4. Students are required to discuss their participation in the colloquium with their supervisors beforehand. Upon obtaining approval, please fill in and submit the application form via Google Form at the following link: https://forms.gle/3ZAbCSu7ZMFNkAPw5
5. Deadline for application submission is on April 21st, 2025.
