THE THREE MINUTE THESIS (3MT) UKM 2025
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for the year 2025 concluded with a meaningful closing ceremony, officiated by YBhg. Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Sajuri.
A total of 49 participants took part in this year’s competition, comprising 30 participants from the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) and 19 participants from the Social Sciences (SS). The competition provides a platform for postgraduate students (Doctor of Philosophy) to present their research in just three minutes, using a concise, clear, and engaging communication style for a general audience.
The winners were announced in two categories. In the Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) category, Farah Aida A. Zairol Azwan secured first place and received RM1,000.00, followed by Nor Jumanah Said Mohamed in second place with RM600.00, and Aina Nadheera Abd Rahman in third place with RM400.00. In the Social Sciences (SS) category, Muhammad Imran Razali won first place (RM1,000.00), Norhameza Ahmad Badruddin came in second (RM600.00), and Nurdiana Mohammad Hussin took third (RM400.00).
A heartfelt thank you goes to the panel of judges for their dedication and expertise: Prof. Emeritus Dr. Che Husna Azhari, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wahiza Wahi, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Wan Hanna Melini Wan Mohtar, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Fatin Mohd Razali, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosmawati Mohamad Rasit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Goh Hoe Han, and Chm. Dr. Nurul Huda Abd Karim.
Gratitude was also extended to Dr. Nashrah Hani Jamadon and Ms. Aida Abdul Rashid for their excellent hosting throughout the ceremony.
In his closing speech, delivered on behalf of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Gafor, Prof. Dr. Zainuddin congratulated all participants and emphasized the vital role of young researchers in bridging the gap between academia and society through effective communication. He reiterated that platforms such as 3MT are instrumental in shaping researchers who are both intellectually and communicatively competent on the global stage.
The success of the UKM 3MT competition once again reflects UKM’s commitment to nurturing globally competitive researchers who can communicate their ideas with clarity and impact.
