Professor of Marketing

Biography

Professor Dr. Norzalita Aziz currently serves as Professor of Marketing and the RHB–UKM Endowment Chair Manager at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She brings to academia a strong foundation of industry experience, having spent six years in the corporate sector specialising in marketing and corporate communications within a diversified conglomerate. This industry exposure has significantly shaped her academic perspective, enabling her to integrate practical insights with scholarly research and teaching. Throughout her distinguished academic career at UKM, Professor Norzalita has undertaken numerous strategic leadership and administrative roles that contribute to the university’s academic development and industry engagement. At the institutional level, she previously served as Director of Corporate Communication and Marketing, where she played a key role in strengthening the university’s branding, strategic communication, and stakeholder engagement initiatives. Within the UKM Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB), she has held several key leadership positions, including Head of MBA Programs and Head of Industry and Community Partnerships, where she was instrumental in strengthening industry collaboration, enhancing postgraduate programme development, and fostering meaningful engagement between academia, industry, and the wider community. Professor Norzalita has also contributed to interdisciplinary institutional development through her roles as Associate Fellow at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and SME Development (CESMED) and the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI) at UKM, where she has been actively involved in initiatives related to entrepreneurship development, sustainability, and socio-economic research. Her academic engagement extends well beyond Malaysia. She was appointed as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Marketing at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, where she contributed to teaching, research collaboration, and academic exchange. She later served as a Visiting Consultant in the Department of Sustainable Tourism and Regional Development at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech), an institution academically affiliated with RWTH Aachen University, Germany. She is currently serving as a Visiting Professor at Guangdong Ocean University, China, further strengthening international academic collaboration and knowledge exchange. Professor Norzalita’s research reflects a strong balance between academic rigor and industry relevance. Her research interests span several areas within marketing and business studies, including services marketing—particularly in tourism and hospitality—sustainable marketing, digital and e-marketing, consumer behaviour, and entrepreneurship. Her work frequently explores how businesses and institutions can integrate sustainability, innovation, and digital transformation into marketing strategies to enhance competitiveness and long-term value creation. Over the years, she has established extensive research and academic collaborations with a wide network of international universities and institutions. These include Newcastle University (Australia), INSEAD Business School, Melbourne Business School, and Hamburg University of Technology, as well as collaborative engagements with government agencies in Sri Lanka and Nigeria. Her regional and international collaborations also include partnerships with universities such as Universitas Malang, Universitas Palangkaraya, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, Guangdong Ocean University, University of Sharjah, Taif University, and Ibaraki University. Within Malaysia, she has actively worked with institutions including Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and Taylor’s University, contributing to joint research initiatives, academic programmes, and knowledge-sharing activities. She has received recognition for her academic contribution such as Emerald Literati Awards. Through her leadership, research, and international engagement, Professor Norzalita continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of marketing scholarship, industry collaboration, and global academic partnerships.
