All Higher Education Institutions Need to Make Change

PUTRAJAYA, 12 Jan 2018 – All higher education institutions need to make changes in line with the 4.0 industrial revolution (4IR), said Minister of Higher Education, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh.

He said the field of education in 4IR is very large and challenging.

The Ministry will introduce a policy where all authorised higher education institutin offering 30 percent of a fluid and organic curriculum through three pedagogy namely paragogy, heutagogy and cybergogy.

“We must change. We can’t stay in old stage. 4IR will make us change. The curriculum should also be modified in line with the passage of time,” he said at the Mandate Minister of Higher Education with theme Higher Education 4.0: Knowledge, Industry, Humanity, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

He said It is time for higher education using new methods in the assessment and evaluation of students.

“Assessment and evaluation of students no longer through examinations, on the other hand, academia should think of other methods to evaluate the student.  Students and lecturers not only depends on classes for teaching and learning session. Use the technology that we have to convey the knowledge with the knowledge without boundaries,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali said, the university must ensure that they always relevant by offering strong value to society in the context of 4IR.

“It is the time to the university take (changes) seriously. Research produced must fulfil the industry and the people who will be born.  This change is not because we (the University) is not relevant, but we must review and make sure what we offer is something of value to society,” he said.
