BANGI, 9 Dec 2015 – Islamic Syariah Law is the best way to provide proper information on Nationhood, Security and Civilization.

Islamic Law of Objectives, or Shariah Maqasid is the best platform to deliver correct information from the exact sources, said Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student and Alumni Affairs) of The National University of Malaysia (UKM), Prof Datin Noor Aziah Mohd Awal.

She said the method can substantially improve the sensitivity and awareness of students and the younger generation to take on more responsibilities of the nation.

“The world now is borderless. The main challenges faced now is the availability of information going viral on the internet.

“This information is often confusing and also spun, resulting in the younger generation not knowing the right sources to be trusted,” she said while delivering her speech at the Nationhood, Security and Civilization Programme based on Shariah Maqasid , here on Nov 22.

She said the one-day programme can give exposure about the Federal Constitution, nationhood, Malay civilization and security in Malaysia.

“The participants are also be introduced to the meaning and purpose of Shariah Maqasid, so that the younger generation can understand and appreciate the laws needed for Muslims.

“All the issues are important to be understood by the younger generation nowadays as preparation to face the challenges and threats in the future,” she said.

The Nationhood, Security and Civilization Programme based on Shariah Maqasidhas have been held several times in universities across the country and this is the first time it was hosted by UKM.

The programme was organised by The National Silat Cekak Association of UKM (PSSCMUKM) and PSSCM, with cooperation of The National Security Council (MKN), the Prime Minister’s Department and was also attended by participants from other universities.

The programme was chaired by representatives from the two organisers, Mohd Hafiz Jamil as Secretary-general representing PSSCM and Senior Chief Assistant Secretary of MKN, Shukri Janudin.

The program featured three speakers experienced in their respective fields, namely, President of the Islamic Da’wah Foundation Malaysia (YADIM), Dr Yusri Mohamad, Director-General of the Counter Terrorism Division of the Police, Dato’ Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Senior Fellow of the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment UKM, Dr Mastor Surat.
