Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamad Amin Embi Lead Committee Awards Thought and Design Malaysia Higher Education 2017

BANGI, 27 January 2017 – UKM Director of Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamad Amin Embi will lead the Higher Education Teaching and Learning Creation and Design Awards Committee 2017.

Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamad Amin was selected based on the his recent success in receiving international awards which includes the Open MOOC Award for innovation in teaching and learning (TnL) by the Open Education Consortium in Poland, last year.

Higher Education Minister, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh said students are now not only the recipients of knowledge but are also creators.

“Therefore, we need to rethink the design of teaching and learning in higher education whereby learning is more active, interactive and immersive and is challenge-based and involves role-plays.

“Only then can we achieve the apex educational goals in Bloom’s Taxonomy which is not only to memorise facts but also to create,” he said while delivering his 2017 mandate here, recently.

Dato’ Seri Idris said more than 250 MOOC has been produced and offered by private and public universities, polytechnics and community colleges.

“More than 220,000 students from 170 countries have registered as students in the Malaysia MOOC course, with the highest enrolment from Australia and USA,” he said.
