UKM-AELB Strengthen Collaboration in research of Radiation and Nuclear Safety

Bangi, 15 Jan 2018 – Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) have strengthened the cooperation through Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Bangi recently.

UKM was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation Affairs), Prof. Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman while AELB by its Director General, Hamrah Mohd. Ali. Also present was the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kasim and AELB Deputy Director-General Mohd Pauzi Mohd Sobari.

Prof. Dr. Mohd Ekhwan said this collaboration is a joint venture to build expertise in the field of security, nuclear and radiation use.

He said. this partnership which also involves FST is expected to encourage collaborative research, laboratory development in securities, nuclear material and equipment utilization and radiation.

This ties will also give value to UKM’s efforts in reinforce the development of nuclear research in UKM, he said.

According to.Hamrah, the joint collaboration of UKM was the first of its kind innitiated by AELB and this opened the door for them to continue such networking with other institutions in the future.

Meanwhile, this MoU also encourages the exchange of knowledge and expertise between UKM and AELB through its continuous education program for AELB staff, exchanges of administrative officers at both organizations and encourage publication for every research undertaken by these two organizations.
