KUALA LUMPUR, 9 May 2016 – The Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK) of The National University of Malaysia (UKM) has just opened the university’s first fitness centre to promote a healthy life-style among staff and students at the KL Campus.

Coordinator of FSK Fitness Centre, Prof Dr Poh Bee Koon said for now the gymnasium is only open to the UKM community.

However, during the launch here recently, friends and family of staff joined in the fun, trying out the gym equipment.

“Besides using the gym equipment, they also joined us in aerobics, yoga and Zumba,” she said after the opening ceremony.

She said before opening the gym to the public, they will add equipment to complete the fitness centre.

She explained that the next step is to offer counselling sessions with nutrition and dietetic experts to gym users.

Further down the road, the fitness centre may offer health screenings, diet counselling and health advice.

Meanwhile, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Dato’ Dr Mazlin, who officiated the ceremony, said the FSK Fitness Centre is a brand under the  Ministry of Higher Education blue print challenge as part of the national higher education strategic plan.

He stressed that the facility is one way to strengthen ties between academia, industry and community besides providing entrepreneurial opportunities to  students.ukmnewsportal-eg
