FELLOWSHIP IN NEONATOLOGY (UKM)

1. Basic Medical Degree Recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council for Temporary Medical Registration.
2. A candidate whose basic medical degree is not recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council, if opting to be temporarily registered (with a TPC) will only be able to enroll in the programme for not more than 12 months. Such candidates will follow a clinical attachment during which there will be limited hands-on experience as permissible under supervision).
3. Paediatric Specialist Qualification from home country or internationally recognized diplomae e.g. MRCPCH/Fellowship or Masters in Paediatrics.
4. Ongoing subspecialty training in neonatology in home country but coming over for elective or attachment.

To produce paediatricians with special interest in neonatology (less than three years) or subspecializing as neonatologist (full three years following the curriculum of the Malaysian Medical Council subspecialty board).

1. To produce paediatricians with special interest in this field with exposure to current knowledge and advancements in neonatology.
2. To produce neonatologists with competence and experience in managing up to level three of neonatal intensive care and performing the core procedures required in this specialty.

1. Candidate will be required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics (short-term as well as high-risk very low birth weight follow-up), do ward rounds, perform routine procedures e.g. point of care ultrasound
2. Candidate should be able to develop increasing competence in managing general as well as complex neonatal medical and post-operative care cases.
3. Candidate will gain exposure in interpreting diagnostic and monitoring procedures such as pulmonary mechanics, amplitude-integrated electroencephalogram and various imaging modalities of the neonatal brain, heart and abdomen.
4. Candidates must perform and assist in as many procedures as required in this hands-on programme.
5. Candidate must keep a log book and a recommended journal reflection of his/her performance.
6. Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet (at least once in 3 monthly) with course director.
7. Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the unit and also, the department (e.g. morbidity and mortality meeting) if relevant.
8. Candidate is required to do research and audit during the training and encouraged to publish at least 1 manuscript in a WOS journal over one year or at least present at a local conference within a six-month stint.
9. Certificate of completion of training certified by the Course Director and Dean, Faculty of Medicine, UKM will be given to all eligible candidates.

1. Please apply at least 6 months before the intended start date.
2. You will need Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). This is preferably done early as it may take at least 6 months for processing.

4. Application for TPC will be forwarded to the MMC by UKM
5. Letter of Good Standing from the home country is required with the application .
