CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP IN OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH

  1. Independent and certified public health physician (Malaysian) OR has completed a recognized public health specialist training (for overseas candidate), with interest in a subspecialty area of occupational health.
  2. Applicants who have completed attachment in any facilities that cover the 5 domains of public health, is highly encouraged OR has work experience in public health for a minimum of 3 years. Applicants are required to submit current CV with two referees. Applicants are also required to submit a good standing letter from the employer/institution, for the program application.
  3. Non-Malaysians are required to apply for Temporary Practising Certificate by the Malaysian Medical Council.

By the end of the program, the candidate should be able to:

  1. Integrate all of the occupational health physician roles in providing optimal, ethical and worker-centred care in a focus subspecialty area of occupational health.
  2. Apply knowledge of the clinical, socio-behavioural, and fundamental public health relevant to occupational health research and services in the focus subspecialty area of occupational health.
  3. Perform appropriate assessment and management of at-risk workers in the focus subspecialty area of occupational health.
  4. Participate effectively and appropriately in a multidisciplinary occupational health service team and communicate effectively with the workplace parties and government agencies.
  5. Exhibit leadership skills, team work, caring, effective communication and professionalisme in the work place.
  1. Plan and conduct occupational health programme in a focus area to an identified population of workers.
  2. Perform appropriate health assessment of workers following health hazard exposure relevant to the focus area.
  3. Plan a return to work (RTW) programme with the considerations of medical, psychological and social factors that may influence recovery and safe RTW relevant to the focus area.
  4. Proposed and conduct studies in a focus area of occupational health.
  5. Collaborate with government agencies, occupational health service practitioners, employers and workers in the activities where relevant.
  6. Record experience activities in the fellowship customised logbook.
  1. Applicants are required to submit a current CV with two named referees.
  2. Applicants are also required to submit a good standing letter from the employer/institution, for the program application.
  3. Applications must be submitted at least six months from the intended start date.
  4. Overseas candidates (non-Malaysian) are required to apply for a Temporary Practising Certificate by the Malaysian Medical Council at their cost.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
