FELLOWSHIP IN HEAD AND NECK SURGERY

Postgraduate certificate  in Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery

  1. To learn the management and treatment of head and neck tumours .
  2. To perform common head and neck oncology surgery.
  3. To learn the advanced head and neck oncology surgery including microvascular free flap.
  1. Candidate is required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, perform head and neck surgeries confidently and safely, do on-calls.
  2. Candidate must attend head and neck oncology combine clinic.
  3. Candidate must attend at least once the Head and Neck dissection course.
  4. Candidate must observe all head and neck oncology cases performed either as elective or emergency.
  5. Candidate must pass the viva examinations which will be at end of the programme.
  6. Candidates must assist as many cases as possible both common and advance head and neck tumour surgery.
  7. Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
  8. Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet with course director.
  9. Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of the Unit.
  10. Candidate must publish at least 1 manuscript in a WOS journal.
  1. Please apply at least 6 months before intended start date.
  2. Letter of recommendation by 2 senior Head and Neck surgeon is required.
  3. You will need Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). Please ensure you fulfil all the requirements for TPC. https://mmc.gov.my/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/TPC_July_2019_2.pdf
  4. Application for TPC will be forwarded to MMC by UKM except for Letter of Good Standing.
  5. All candidates wishing to pursue Clinical Fellowship Programme at the Faculty of Medicine, UKM
    are required to apply for credentialing and privileges prior to commencing the fellowship program.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
