Mini Biography

Prof. Dr. Ani Amelia Dato’ Zainuddin is a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Hospital Tunku Mukhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM UKM), specializing in Paediatric & Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG). She is a Fellow of the International Federation of Infant and Juvenile Gynaecology (FIGIJ) and the Head of the PAG Unit in HCTM UKM. She and her colleague, Prof. Nur Azurah Abdul Ghani, established the first PAG unit in Malaysia in 2008. They receive referrals from all over Malaysia, where they manage girls and young women with O&G problems.  She obtained her PhD in “The outcomes of female patients with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia” in 2014 and has conducted research in PAG, published and presented in national and international congresses. Her special interest is in managing patients with Disorders / Differences of Sex Development (DSD) such as Rokitansky (MRKH) syndrome, XY females, patients with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) and patients with Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). She has published several papers on Islamic perspectives in managing gender issues in patients with DSD. The PAG Unit in HCTM UKM has been accredited as an international training centre for PAG by FIGIJ and is training both national and international Fellows. Prof Ani Amelia Zainuddin is also the Vice President of the Asia Oceanic Society of PAG (AOSPAG) which has members from Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Australia Japan and Philippines.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
