Dr. Ixora Kamisan is a Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist & Urogynaecologist and a Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in HCTM UKM. She completed her subspecialty training in Urogynaecology in Sydney Medical School Nepean, University of Sydney in 2014. Her main expertise is in pelvic floor imaging. She is the first Malaysian gynaecologist to be formally trained in Translabial / Transperineal Pelvic Floor ultrasound (PFUS). She is an active member of International Urogynaecology Association (IUGA) Pelvic Floor Imaging Special Interest Group (SIG) and is a preceptor of IUGA online academy for PFUS. Dr. Ixora obtained her PhD in 2018 from University of Sydney with her thesis ‘Pelvic floor trauma following vaginal childbirth’. She has been awarded the ‘Isobel Corin Award’ for young researchers in 2012 and 2014, by the Nepean Medical Research Foundations (Australia) and, the University of Sydney Postgraduate Research Scheme in 2014 and 2015 to present her work in pelvic floor trauma internationally. She is actively engaged in pelvic floor research and has international research network. Her special interest is in Maternal Birth Trauma and she has just set up a Maternal Birth trauma clinic in HCTM UKM, a specially designated clinic aimed to manage women who had sustained major perineal trauma. She has numerous recent publications related to pelvic floor trauma following childbirth and pelvic floor dysfunction.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
