Associate Professor Dr. Rozman Zakaria

Rozman Zakaria is an Associate Professor of Radiology, senior consultant radiologist, senior consultant interventional neuroradiologist, and also the current Head of the Department of Radiology, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He received his degree in medicine from the University of Queensland, Australia, and Professional Doctor of Medicine (Radiology) (UKM) in 2005. Throughout his career, he has trained a significant number of radiologists, who later became the main providers of radiology services in the country. At present, he is the Chairman of the National Conjoint Board of the Radiology Specialty. His subspecialty is in Interventional Radiology (IR), Interventional Neuroradiology (INR) and has served as the Vice President of the Malaysian Society of Interventional Radiology (MYSIR, 2015-2017). He is currently a council member of the Malaysian Neurorinterventional Society (MyNIS, 2019-2021). He has trained a handful of local and international IRs and has given talks and organized a number of National and International Interventional Radiology meetings, workshops and conferences. Previously, he was a council member in Malaysian Board of Interventional Radiology (MBIR), a body that regulates the teaching, training and credentialing of IRs. His current research mainly focuses on the effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy devices in treating acute stroke patients. He is also involved in the internationally sponsored dendritic cell immunotherapy in the treatment of advanced cancers, and as the principle investigator of the study, vascular angioplasty in the treatment of ejaculatory dysfunction.

DEFINITION

Credentialing: a process to set the standards and to do an evaluation for a person’s qualification in a field or procedure. It is recognition for the professional training done by a medical practitioner.

Privileges: the rights given by the hospital for a medical practitioner to give treatments or to do procedures on hospital patients based on the qualifications of the training, and the medical practitioner’s experience and expertise.
