5 June 2026 – Workshop: Team Strategies and Tools To Enhance Performance and Patient Safety was successfully conducted for new Clinical Master/Medical Specialist students for Semester 1, Academic Session 2026/2027.
As a compulsory component of the Professional and Personal Development (PPD) Course at the Faculty of Medicine, UKM, the workshop is attended once by all the Clinical Master/Medical Specialist students during their programme. In 2026, the workshop marked a significant milestone by introducing, for the first time, a hands-on simulation session for clinical students. This initiative was led by Professor Dr. Zaleha Abdullah Mahdy from the Department of Medical Education and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rabani Remli, PPD Course Coordinator, Faculty of Medicine, UKM.
Practical Sessions.
Students were divided into two groups, Team A and Team B, and rotated through four practical sessions: Communication, Leadership, Situation Monitoring, and Mutual Support.

Team A:

During each session, students participated in simulation-based clinical scenarios by taking on the roles of nurse, House Officer, Medical Officer, and Specialist. This simulation provided practical experience in communication, teamwork, leadership, and decision-making in a clinical environment.
Overall, the workshop enhanced students’ understanding of effective teamwork and patient safety while highlighting the importance of collaboration in delivering safe, high-quality patient care. The workshop also received highly positive feedback from participants.
