Breaking news! UMBI’s HICOE Research Published in PLoS One Journal
The cancer research group in UMBI has again shown its ability to publish in tier one journals. It also proves that our local researchers are able to produce high quality research work even in the very competitive field of cancer research. This latest publication from UMBI is on the integrated analysis of gene expression and copy number variation (CNV) data from colorectal cancer tissues compared to the adjacent normal tissues.
The integrated analysis approach, which is now one of the hottest trends in cancer research, increases the depth and study power whilst giving a deeper insight into the molecular networks involved in cancers. Significant gains (increase in copy numbers) were found mostly in chromosome 20 at position 20q12 with a frequency of 45.31% in the tumor samples. Examples of genes located here are PTPRT, EMILIN3 and CHD6. The highest number of losses was detected at chromosome 8, position 8p23.2. Our team’s research also revealed 56 overlapping genes (by integrating gene expression and CNV data) which were located in chromosomes 8, 20 and 22.
This research is one of the 17 sub-projects under UMBI’s HICOE programme, and was jointly supervised by Professor Datuk Dr. A Rahman A Jamal and Associate Professor Dr. Norfilza Mokhtar.
