UKM is 45 Years Old Today!

Today marks the 45th anniversary of UKM. From a humble beginning in in 1970, UKM has grown exponentially over the years and is now one of the 5 research universities in the nation. It is the so-called national university which upholds key national aspirations including using the Bahasa Melayu as the primary medium of teaching. To date UKM has produced more than 170,000 graduates and thousands of post-graduates in various disciplines. UKM is the number one choice of many aspiring graduates in many for many faculties. In medicine alone, UKM has produced more than 5000 medical doctors and 1500 specialists, and the majority are serving at the government and private hospitals. UKM now has 13 research institutes and 2 of them are recognised at the Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICOE) namely the UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute (UMBI) and the Institute for Microengineering and Nanotechnology (IMEN). Let us all hope and pray that UKM will continue to rise further up and respected locally and internationally, churn more quality graduates and post-graduates, generate more new knowledge through research, publish more high impact publications, engage the community and the industry in relevant activities and address the needs of the nation.
